Says it all....

Class this time....

This week we talked a lot about rules and why they exist and how they held us back. I can't say that I have ever had a rule hold me back. I probably have but I can't remember it. I don't blindly follow rules, but I don't break them for the sake of breaking them either. If I don't agree with a rule, I question it. If a rule gets in my way I push it to its the very edge of its boundaries. I just don't do it to be rebellious. Then the instructor pointed out how she likes to break the rules by still staying within the rules.

We also talked about how in general people are sheep. I have been saying this for years and it still holds true. People follow other people. I think it has to do with a feeling of fitting in. If you go against the "norm" you won't fit it, people would laugh at you or be angry, etc. I generally don't care about what people think. I am who I am and what you see is what you get.

Now, having said that, yes I do put on a "face" for my company or my job and then I have my true "face" which my friends and family get to see. They are 95% the same. My clients don't get to see exactly HOW goofy I can be but other than that they see me as I am all the rest of the time.

The thing I started realizing after class was that no matter what you do, you are "following" someone. Some people are now going to NOT do the assignment, simply because the instructor would find that more interesting or entertaining then having done it. It will be rebellious. She likes the rebellious side, the outrageous side and hilarious side. So I feel that class will now be a competition on who can amuse her more or impress her more. I am not saying everyone will, but there are some already thinking of what they can do that is the most funny or most outrageous.

I know I am a creative person and I know who I am. I don't need take a class or have an instructor tell me that I am creative or that my projects are good enough. I am the only one who decides if they are good enough.

The Egg Project...

So our first assignment was to take an egg and do something with it...It sounded easy enough. So I had to take said egg into my next class which was 20 minutes from starting and try to eat something in between classes. I have this portable mini harddrive case that was made for me and it has soft material inside making it thick and safe for an egg. So I put my egg in there and carried it in my pocket until my next class. Then I just sat it by my laptop and twice almost forgot an egg was in there lol. At least the mess would have been contained.

Plenty of thoughts raced through my head about what to do with this egg. I thought about giving it to my son and see what he would do with it and record it, then I thought..hrmm probably will end up really messy. Next I though it would be neat to have a stop motion video of the evil Dr. Eggelbert O. Melet trying to take over a little lego town, but I didn't know how to do a stop motion animation and my son kept taking my legos.

So I am holding this egg...
I kept looking at this egg and I thought, oh I could paint it!

So I painted the egg...

Then I thought, no that would be too boring...
So I thought I could take the painted egg and have a tree coming out of it!
I made a little tree using wire and fake plant tape and some tree powder for models.

Then I thought, Oh I could make a little garden with this and have nice scene. but my son "helped" and broke my egg.

My helpful son. He wanted to put the tree back in the egg.

So I thought, well I am good at Photoshop so why not. Then I couldn't figure out what I wanted to Photoshop into the egg..

I tried a few things..

A kitchen, some flowers or maybe a forest....
Kitchen Scene, Forest Scene and Flower Scene

I finally settled on this little naturey picture because I liked it and I liked the thought of having that little world in my egg, in my hand...
My world

I have to say that it was really fun trying different things wit this egg. I ended up starting a little garden of paper flowers for the tree =D

First day of class...

Today's class proved to be fairly more eventful than I was prepared for. I was late for starters...walking quickly from Cavanaugh to IT while trying to keep my pants from falling off of me and then getting confused as to which class I had next didn't help either. Sigh...anyway after getting settled in a chair out of the way in a corner trying to be part of a circle we told a bit about ourselves. I must admit I said I had a pretty uneventful childhood, but what I meant was I didn't want to share the events. I don't know that I had anything funny or witty to say, but I DID have a closet that was a secret hideout. I had a hanging lamp I flung over my clothes hanger pole and ran an extension cord under the door. I put a chair inside and turned my old toy box on its side for a desk. I then used the top shelf in my closet to hold books, and papers, and personal things. I used to sit in there for hours and write, draw and read. Anyway, thought I would share since I thought of it in class later.

The rest of class was entertaining as well, with discussions about strange but neat videos and what is art and who decides what is art. Though I have thought about that before it was interesting to hear other opinions.

The egg thing is throwing me though...I have too many ideas I think...I have this little external hard drive and a friend made a case for it for me. It is all soft inside and pretty red with white flowers outside so I let Yolko ride in that. That way if she broke it was contained....Now to figure what to do with her but more on that later.

Expectations of the class...

Hrmm.. well I consider myself a fairly creative person already, but I hope this class can help me be even more creative digitally and give me new areas to apply my creativity digitally.

I not only work in graphic design but make craft items like cards and keepsakes and I design birthday party invites and treat bags and other things for kids as well.

It wouldn't hurt to be better at public speaking either since I haven't done much of it.
